wetland systems SFS-h or HF (horizontal subsurface flow) are made up of tanks with an inert material with a particle size selected in order to ensure adequate hydraulic conductivity (the means of filling commonly used are sand, gravel , rubble). Inert materials are the medium on which they grow roots emergent plants (Phragmites australis are commonly used).
The bottom of the tanks must be properly sealed using a layer of clay or synthetic membranes.
The flow of water remains constantly below the surface of the absorbent tray and flows horizontally through a gently sloping bottom of the bed (approximately 1%) obtained with a layer of sand beneath the surface waterproofing.
